Taupo enjoys a small village atmosphere and a location on the shores of the country's largest lake with a backdrop of majestic volcanoes and mountain ranges.

We are on the fringe of the downtown shopping area - a five to ten minute walk will take you across downtown.

About Us

Rainbow lodge was Taupos 1st hostel and New Zealand’s first purpose built independent Backpacker hostel. The Hostel was born in 1985 by Mark and Sue Dumble, intrepid Travellers themselves, and their aim was  provide Comfortable, Clean, Friendly, and Cost Effective accommodation for Budget Backpackers and travellers.
